Sony Pictures is thrilled with
the Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming thriller The Equalizer, starring Denzel
Washington, Chloe Grace Moretz, Melissa Leo, Bill Pullman, Haley Bennett, and
Marton Cskokas. Apparently Fuqua’s adaptation of the 1980’s tv show went
through the roof in a recent test screening and as a result Sony is keen on beginning
to develop a sequel, despite the fact that the movie only opens on September 26th
and is rated R.
According to The Wrap Sony has
brought back screenwriter Richard Wenk to write the sequel, and both Fuqua and
Washington are expected to return. Developing a sequel before the first movie
opens isn’t exactly new, but it’s usually done in big budget, PG-13 franchises
and not Rated-R movies, but there is always a first.
The Equalizer stars Denzell
Washington as a retired intelligence officer that gets mixed up with the
Russian mob after helping a young prostitute (Moretz).
