This is strange, hmmmmmm…..a film
franchise that stops at two movies?hmmmmm….Oh well.
In a recent interview with Empire
director Adam Mckay announces that he is going against the current Hollywood trend
of 3s and says it’s unlikely that he will make an Anchorman 3, as he is keen on
creating and exploring new stories and new characters. This announcement puts a
stop to the Anchorman saga but also the long awaited Step Brothers 2.
“It’s done. I think that’s it. It was great to do it and it was so fun to
work with those guys again, but I think that’s it for Ron Burgundy.”
McKay elaborates on the matter
saying that wishes to do original stories.
“No, [Anchorman 2] is the last
sequel we’re gonna do. There’s nothing
more fun to me than new characters and a new world. And now we’re releasing this alt version,
we’re totally satisfied. No Anchorman
3.”
Despite not saying that he won’t
do Step Brothers 2, his wishes to tackle new material almost puts an end to
fans dreams of seeing the sequel but not all is lost, as McKay will see his
director cut of Anchorman: The Legend Continues with what we can assume will be
tons of new and unreleased footage, like a musical number that was cut or
alternate jokes that might be a little bit heavier, since this new release will
a different R-rated cut of the film. The new version will hit theaters this
Friday, February 28th and will only run for a week.
In the interview the director
mentioned his upcoming project, Uptown Saturday Night with Will Smith and
Denzel Washington.
“You never fully know, but
[Uptown Saturday Night] is the one I’m putting my chips on for now. We’re
working on the rewrite with [screenwriter] Nick Stoller and it’s getting really
good. We already did The Other Guys, I didn’t want to go into the traditional
buddy film genre, I want it to be something different and I think we found it
in the last week.”
Uptown Saturday Night is a remake
of the 1971 comedy starring Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier.
