Until recently Attack the Block director Joe Cornish was supposedly set to take over J.J. Abrams as the helmer of the next installment in the Star Trek franchise, well it seems not. According to a new report Cornish is no longer involved in negotiations to direct Star Trek 3.
In a Variety report about the hiring of new writers
for Star Trek 3, comes news that although Paramount was indeed at one point
considering and in fact Paramount was in talks with the director, it seems that
Cornish is no longer involved with the project.
While the first two films were written by Roberto
Orci, Damon Lindelof and Alex Kurtzman, this time around only Orci and two
newcomers, J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are penning the script.
It’s unknown what made the deal crash and burn but
Cornish is currently attached to direct the adaptations of Snow Crash and Rust.
