It
seems that the Beetlejuice sequel is really going to happen and with
some of the original cast and crew. Director Tim Burton had
originally hired Dark Shadows screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith to take
a look at a possible sequel and see if there was something there that
would be interesting to explore in a new film. Grahame-Smith must
have found something because before we knew it, Burton was in talks
to direct the sequel. Actor Michael Keaton is also on board to
reprise his role as the weird, demented and fast ghoul Beetlejuice
and now it seems that actress Winona Ryde is also going to be
returning as Lydia Deetz.
In
a recent interview to The Daily Beast the actress hinted that she
might reprise her role in the sequel:
“I’m
kind of sworn to secrecy, but it sounds like it might be happening.”
The
actress then confirmed that it isn't a remake and that the film takes
a real life jump from the events of the first film:
“It’s
not a remake, it’s 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia
so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested
in what she is doing 27 years later.”
Ryder
then confessed that if neither Keaton nor Burton were involved in the
film, she wouldn't return:
“I
would never go near [a sequel] if it was not Tim and Michael,” she
said. “Because those guys, I love.”
