Disney
has released the first poster for the upcoming re-imagining of Sleeping Beauty,
Maleficent. This new take on the classic tale is told from the point of view of
the villain, hence the title. This new film is part of a series of redo’s by
Disney in which the titular characters will be the villains. In the next few
years there will be a Lady Tremaine from Cinderella and a Cruella from 101 Dalmatians.
Maleficent
stars Angelina Jolie as the titular character, Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning,
Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Leslie Manville.
The
film opens on May 30, 2014.

Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a
result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows,
Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and
perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.
