The viral Tumblr feed for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been up and running since this year’s Comic Con International and today some possible big news have been posted and it suggests that scientist/inventor Spencer Smythe will be appearing and possibly his Spider-Slayer robots. Here is the article posted on tumblr.
“Despite
the assault on Oscorp Tower two weeks ago and the revelation that disgruntled
Oscorp employee, Dr. Curt Connors, was responsible for the attack, Oscorp’s
stock has climbed four points.
Oscorp
spokesman Douglas Menken provided some details from the meeting, including that
the construction on the prototype alternative energy power plant, complete with
hydroelectric tower, is on schedule for completion within the next year.
Other
highlights included a preview of a flight harness for the military and
significant advancements in robotics by the head of the engineering division,
Spencer Smythe.
Oscorp
personnel dismissed questions regarding Norman Osborn’s health and whether the
company’s estranged heir apparent, Harry Osborn, is up to the task of running
his father’s conglomerate.
Menken
stated, “Between the disappearance of Dr. Rajit Ratha, the rogue actions of a
very unstable former employee and Norman Osborn’s health concerns, everyone in
the media will cry the sky is falling, but just the opposite is true. While
everyone else ducks for cover, Oscorp is always reaching for the stars.””
So
far in the sequel there are only two actors that don’t have an official
character yet, B.J. Novak and Colm Feore. Regarding Feore there has been some
talk about him playing Adrian Toomes, aka the Vulture, which makes some sense,
since in the comics, Toomes is somewhat physically similar to Feore and the introduction
of the character in this installment, would certainly go to what we have been
hearing, about having the Sinister Six as the group of villains which will
fight Spidey.
This
then leaves B.J. Novak, and I know fans of the comic are going to say “but Smythe
is an old man in the comic’s”, yes he is, but in last year’s The Amazing
Spider-Man video game, which accompanied the first The Amazing Spider-Man,
Smythe is a young man, that incidentally creates the Spider-Slayers.
