Although
much of the success of Gravity is due to writer/director Alfonso Cuarón genius,
the beginnings of the project began with Cuarón’s son Jonás, who co-wrote the
script.
Per
Variety, Warner Bros. hired Jonás to write the script for the hopefully summer
blockbuster set in Atlantis, The Lost City. Apparently the studio had been
eyeing Jonás for the film, but weren’t sure because he is making his directorial
debut next year with actor Gael Garcia Bernal in Desierto.
It
seems that the studio is keen on making The Lost City as quickly as possible,
they even at some considered Peter Jackson to direct the film, despite his The
Hobbit trilogy.
