Although
Guillermo del Toro’s vision of giant mechas fighting kaijus in Pacific Rim wasn’t
exactly the massive blockbuster in the US, that everyone were hoping it to be,
shying just under 90 million, a sequel is already being planned, and it’s all
due to the fact that the overseas box-office stands out at 140 million, and the
film just open in China to a record breaking 9 million. At this point the film
just about breaks even of the 180 to 220 million budget.
Right
now del Toro certainly has more on his mind to be thinking about a sequel to
Pacific Rim, he has to shoot the pilot for The Strain, he will be directing
Crimson Peak, Pinocchio and The Incredible Hulk tv series, so Pacific Rim 2
either waits in line or gets a new director.
