With
Comic-Con at our doorstep, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will have the
majority of their targeted audience in a single room, so in preparation for
possible questions Joss Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen (co-creator) and Jeph Loeb
(Marvel’s Head of TV) got busy talking to EW.
One of
the main questions that is on everybody’s mind is Agent Coulson sudden
resurrection, well according to EW “his S.H.I.E.L.D. colleagues say he must
‘never know the truth’ about his death.” and Whedon added "We can't wait to pull the curtain back on that, but we're going to take our time." So it seems that Agent Coulson's return to land of the living won't be explained right off the bat.
One other
question that has popped up, is the timeline where the story is set, and the
answer that Whedon gave might surprise you;
“We
plan on trying to weave in between the films and try to make them more
rewarding on both ends,”
“will
pick up a storyline that’s familiar from one of the Marvel hits— and it's not The Avengers."
So
it will pick up after Iron Man 3? If Coulson died, then it’s after The Avengers
but if it won’t pick up after The Avengers than it must be after Iron Man 3,
right?
Well
let’s continue.
Whedon
also talked about trying to make sure fans won’t obsess about things like “Why
don’t they just call Iron Man?", well "but they do have their own lives"
In
the interview, co-creator Maurissa Tancharoen was massively vague about the
rumor that J. August Richards is playing Rage and a few other questions. “We’ll
finally be able to answer some questions,” said the co-creator. "Though I'm sure we'll have to stay on the vague end of the spectrum." until at least Comic-Con where apparently there will be a video with some new footage and some concrete answers
Now
to the business side of things. As one can expect Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
will have a substantial budget so it can sustain not only great actors but also
great effects, for instance if Iron Man decides to suddenly appear flying with
guns blazing, the effects should be as close to the ones in the film as
possible, but by focusing the story on “regular” people and having superheroes
sort of in the sidelines, the cost should be more manageable, “The magic of
television is that it’s about characters,” said Jeph Loeb, "and fortunately that's what Marvel is also about. We're not built around a cape and a cowl."
Marvel’s
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air this Fall on ABC.
