Guillermo del Toro Talks Justice League Dark and manga adaptation of Monster

Yesterday at the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Festival director Guillermo del Toro gave updates regarding the Justice League Dark, which is currently in development and Monster, the manga adaptation he is doing for HBO.

On the Justice League Dark, del Toro said that Constantine, The Swamp Thing, Madame Xanadu, Deadman and Zatanna will form the team, with other characters appearing too, “everybody that doesn’t feel like a repeat”, according to del Toro.

The director is still waiting for the thumbs up from Warner Bros., probably they are waiting to see what are the results of Man of Steel and Pacific Rim.

About Monsters, the adaptation of the manga by Naoki Urasawa, del Toro says that he just submitted the pilot script to HBO last week and that they are reading it. Del Toro also said that his story will follow closely with the one on the manga by Urasawa-san, from whom he gained permission to adapt the manga, if he submitted an outline for each hypothetical episode of season one.

Regarding the show del Toro said that if it was picked up by the studio, it will have a short life, since he only wants to do the 18 volumes, no more no less.

At the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Festival, Guillermo del Toro had a screening of The Devil’s Backbone, which he claims its his first film, which it isn’t. Del Toro says that The Devil’s Backbone is his first film because Cronos which is the first film he ever made, because of the budget, restrictions and inexperience, ended up being about 50% of the film he wanted to make. Mimic which is his second film was like “being in prison and bending over in the shower.”, said del Toro, so he says that The Devil’s Backbone which s his third film is his first.
