If you combine Disney and Marvel you get a
world of possibilities, or at least that’s what fan thought when Disney bought
Marvel back in 2006. Last summer rumors that Disney was developing an animated
feature adaptation of Marvel’s Big Hero 6 surfaced and they were quickly and officially
confirmed that the project was in the early stages of development.
Don Hall (Winnie the Pooh) is directing the
CG-animated adaptation of Big Hero 6, which is schedule to hit theaters on
November 7, 2014.
The story than centers on a robotics prodigy
called Hiro Hamada who, along with his robot companion BayMax, teams up with a
group of superheroes in Tokyo.
The original story is set in Tokyo, but Hall
wants to create a new world, thus San Fransokyo (San Francisco + Tokyo), but
all under the eye of Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, whom has been
very involved in the film development, so you hardcore comics fans won’t worry.
“I was looking for something on the obscure
side, something that would mesh well with what we do. The idea of a kid and a
robot story with a strong brother element, it’s very Disney….Marvel properties
take place in the real world. We were looking for something to do where we
could make our own world — bring in the Japanese influences, have
recognizable landmarks mashed up with a Japanese aesthetic.”
Here is the first shot of San Fransokyo:
