As
expected the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger is set in modern
times, following the events of The Avengers, when “Steve Rogers struggles to
embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha
Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in
present-day Washington, D.C”.
By
shadowy enemy, one must assume it’s the captain old friend Bucky, who returns
as the brainwashed Winter Soldier.
The
producer of the movie and Marvel Studios boss, Kevin Feige has described the
film as it being “a ’70s political
thriller masquerading as a big superhero movie,”, which makes sense if you
consider the appearance of Robert Redford (Three Days of the Condor and All The
President’s Men) as Alexander Pierce, a high ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. official.
In
the movie you can count with the flashback appearance of Hayley Atwell, whom
played Peggy Carter, the love interest of Cap in the first movie. We can pretty
much guess that this love interest is gone, unless she returns in old age
makeup. But don’t get your hearts broken just yet SPOILER ALERT – You can count
on a new love interest in this new movie, between Stave Rogers and Agent 13 aka
Sharon Carter, who is either the granddaughter or great-niece of Peggy Carter.
Also
returning is actor Toby Jones as HYDRA scientist Arnim Zola, I’m guessing as a
origin point for Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier.
New
heroes and villains are to be expected in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
On the hero side there will be Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) as Sam Wilson
aka Falcon, a crimefighter who not only can fly but is also able to
telepathically communicate with birds. Cobie Smulders is back as Agent Maria
Hill. Also returning is Maximiliano Hernández as Agent Jasper Sitwell. On the
baddie side there will be Frank Grillo (Zero Dark Thirty), playing the mercenary
Crossnones and Geroge St. Pierre as George Batroc, also known as Batroc the
Leaper, a kick boxer with deadly legs.
So Captain America: The Winter
Soldier will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo(Community),
and starred by Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha
Romanoff/Black Widow), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie
Smulders (Maria Hill), Maximiliano
Hernández (Agent Jasper Sitwell) Sebastian Stan (Bucky
Barnes/Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/The
Falcon), Toby Jones (Arnim Zola), Frank
Grillo (Brock Rumlow/Crossbones), Geroge St. Pierre (Batroc the Leaper) Emily VanCamp (Sharon
Carter/Agent 13), Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter)and Robert
Redford as Alexander
Pierce the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Captain
America: The Winter Soldier is
schedule to hit the theaters on April 4th of 2014.
