Bay
Vs. del Toro
At
CinemaCon director Michael Bay, who was promoting his latest film, Pain &
Gain spoke to the theater owners that “there have been quite a few “rip-off”
robot movies and that audiences know better”. Blunt assault to Guillermo del
Toro’s upcoming Pacific Rim?
Well,
when del Toro hear that statement from Bay through The Hollywood Reporter he
said that:
“We
are far, far, far away from that in a very willing fashion, for good or bad,
this is my movie. This is my universe and my creation, and I do not create
through comparison."
"There is an operatic quality to Pacific Rim in terms of size and scope, del Toro says. In the film, the robots are as tall as 25-story buildings - much larger than the Autobots of Bay's franchise -- and they take on invading alien monsters."

"The
fights don't occur in well-lit, super cool, car commercial-looking
environments. They occur in the middle of a raging sea storm or in a savage
snowstorm. They happen in a universe that is incredibly saturated."
Now
you may be expecting some sort of word fight between the two, but Michael Bay
upon hearing the words of Guillermo del Toro, replied through his blog and end the
problem in the making:
“Well today, Hollywood Reporter stated that I was in a
feud with Guillermo del Toro and his Pacific Rim. Absolutely to the contrary.
I was talking about another movie, at another studio that will remain nameless, while I spoke at CinemaCon in Vegas this Monday.
I love how reporters put false words in people's mouths without doing their proper research. Well 'cause of that sloppy reporting, I thought Guillermo was mad at me, and he thought I was mad at him. We both exchanged calls today and realized nobody was mad at anybody except we were both mad at that reporter!
Michael”

So
that’s that.

Rim

creatures, known as Kaiju started rising from the sea, a gigantic war
breaks out to save Humanity and its resources from possible annihilation. To
stop these monsters and win the war, a special type of weapon is developed,
the Jaegers, massive
robots that are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are
connected in a neural bridge. TheJaeger can fight one on one with
the Kaiju since they are of the
same size and power, but not even they are proving to be powerful enough to
stop the relentlessKaiju from taking over the
world and wipe out Humanity. On the verge of certain defeat, the allied forces
defending mankind have but little choice but to turn to two of the most
unlikely heroes on the force, an untested trainee Mako Moriplayed
by Rinko Kikuchi and Raleigh
Becket a washed up former pilot, played by Charlie
Hunnam. Both of them (Rinko and Raleigh) are teamed to drive the
legendary but apparently completely obsolete Jaeger from the past. The two unlikely heroes became the last hope
