Netflix
has made a seven-figure deal to acquire a pitch from Andrew Dominik and
Harrison Query.
Titled
War Party, the movie has Tom Hardy set to star with Dominik, who directed Brad
Pitt in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, directing.
Dominik
will co-write the project with Query, an up and coming writer who last year
sold a pitch based on the true exorcism that took place at a military base to
Lionsgate, and Honor for Sale, a 1970s crime thriller based on true events with
John Hillcoat attached to direct.
Plot
details are being kept under wraps, but the film is based on real events and
centers on real SEALS. Life rights were included in the deal.
According
to reports, bidding for the project was fierce but the Netflix managed to
outbid Amazon, Universal, Lionsgate, among others.
Ridley
Scott's Scott Free Film, which is producing Hardy's FX series Taboo, will
produce War Party. Taboo was recently picked up for a second season.
