Oscar Isaac has
landed the lead role in Operation Finale, a period thriller about the capture
of Adolf Eichmann.
Considered to be one
of the architects of the Holocaust, Eichmann oversaw the extermination of
hundreds of thousands of Jews, mainly from Hungary. Like many other Nazi war
criminals, after World War II Eichmann escaped to Argentina where he lived in
hiding. Israel's Mossad eventually found him, and in an operation captured him
and smuggled him out of the country. Eichmann was tried and executed in Israel
in 1962.
Isaac will play Peter
Malkin, one of the agents in the operation that led to Eichmann's apprehension and smuggling.
Chris Weitz ("About
a Boy") is set to direct the project, which some people have described as
being in the same vein as Argo or Munich.
Isaac has a few films
coming up including Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the George Clooney written and
directed crime/comedy Suburbicon, and Alex Garland's highly anticipated sci-fi
thriller Annihilation. The actor is currently filming Life Itself opposite
Olivia Wilde, Samuel L. Jackson, Mandy Patinkin, Olivia Cooke, and Annette
Bening.
