Today while at the
Television Critics Association winter press tour, Showtime President and CEO
David Nevins officially announced that the highly anticipated Twin Peaks revival
series will debut with a two-hour premiere Sunday, May 21 on the network's
streaming platforms Showtime Anytime and Showtime On Demand
Furthermore, Nevins
also revealed that the third and fourth episodes of the 18-hour series will air
back-to-back on the network, followed by one-hour episodes in the following
weeks.
"We’ve seen the whole thing… and the version of Twin Peaks you’re
going to see is the pure-heroin version of David Lynch," Nevins said. "I’m
very excited to put that out." To fans eager to absorb every single moment
in Lynch's return to his famous creation, Nevins ends on a bitter note, the new
series is "designed to be a closed-ended, one-time event."
Widely considered one
of the most groundbreaking and influential broadcast series of all time, Twin
Peaks followed the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town who were stunned
after their homecoming queen Laura Palmer was shockingly murdered. The town’s
sheriff welcomed the help of FBI agent Dale Cooper, who came to town to
investigate the case. As Cooper conducted his search for Laura’s killer, the
town’s secrets were gradually exposed. The mystery that ensued set off an eerie
chain of events that plunged the inhabitants of Twin Peaks into a darker
examination of their very existence. Twenty-five
years later, the story continues…
Featuring an insane
200 plus ensemble, Twin Peaks also stars Ray Wise, Alicia Witt, Warren
Frost, Sherilyn Fenn, David Duchovny, Dana Ashbrook, James Belushi, Chrysta
Bell, Eddie Vedder, Robert Knepper, Michael Cera, Amanda
Seyfried, Tom Sizemore, Balthazar Getty, Naomi Watts, Laura Dern,
and Mädchen Amick.
