Dwayne Johnson
recently revealed that he had a prolific meeting with the folks over at DC
Comics and New Line about his turn as Black Adam in the upcoming DC Extended
Universe movie Shazam, and it seems that one of the topics on the table was
giving his character a standalone movie.
According to
Deadline, as New Line has opted to split the upcoming franchise in two films,
one focused on the hero Shazam and another centered on his archenemy Black
Adam.
Part villain, part
antihero, Black Adam is a multifaceted DC character with roots in ancient Egypt
who was once a champion to The Wizard and the predecessor to Shazam, a.k.a.
Captain Marvel.
It's unclear how this
new development will affect the production and various release schedules of the
DC Cinematic Universe, however it does seem to indicate that Warner Bros. is
still trying to come with a viable plan for their shared superhero universe.
For now, Warner's immediate
concern is to deliver Wonder Woman and Justice League this year, and Aquaman in
2018. As for the rest, The Flash hit a snag when director Rick Famuyiwa left
over creative differences, Cyborg no one talks about, and Green Lantern Corps.
only just recently set David S. Goyer to pen the script.
