After a very
short-lived spell at NBC, John Constantine is moving to The CW where he will be
featured in an animated series on the CW Seed.
The move was
announced this past Sunday at the Television Critics Association's winter press
tour, where it was also revealed that the new series will consist of five or
six 10-minute episodes set to premiere sometime during the 2017-2018 television
season.
Matt Ryan, who played
the character in the live-action series and the crossover episode with Arrow,
is set to reprise his role as the chain-smoking magician and occult detective
who defends humanity from the forces of darkness.
After its
cancelation, Warner Bros. TV desperately tried to find a new home for the
character but only managed to secure him a part in a crossover episode with
Arrow, a feat he is unlikely to repeat. When asked on Sunday about the
possibility of another crossover, The CW president Mark Pedowitz said "there
are no plans to", adding that he would love to have Ryan back.
Constantine is set in
the DC Comics TV universe, which consists of shows like Arrow, The Flash,
Supergirl, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and Vixen, a fellow animated DC Comics
series, which launched its second season in October also on the CW Seed.
Constantine could help out The Flash deal with a supernatural problem, The Legends deal with some crazy time problem and even Supergirl might need help defending herself against black magic! Wake up Pedowitz! That's 3 shows he could guest on before you reboot his live action series!
