After Despicable Me,
which spawn a sequel and a Minions spinoff, Illumination Entertainment is now pursuing
yet another franchise with The Secret Life of Pets, which has grossed well over
$400 million worldwide so far.
The studio has staked
out July 13, 2018 for the pet-centric sequel, meaning it will open one week
after Peyton Reed's Ant-Man and the Wasp and one week before Robert Rodriguez'
Alita: Battle Angel.
Directed by Chris
Renaud and Yarrow Cheney, The Secret Life of Pets is a comedy about the lives
our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day.
Renaud returns to
direct The Secret Life of Pets, which will also see the return of screenwriter
Brian Lynch.
