Marvel
Studios has narrowed down the list of potential candidates to direct
the highly anticipated Captain Marvel, their first female-centric
superhero film, to just three names.
According
to THR, Kevin Feige and company are looking at Niki Caro, Lesli Linka
Glatter, and Lorene Scafaria, three distinct directors with
backgrounds in both film and television.
Best
known for the 2002 Oscar-nominated New Zealand drama Whale Rider,
which she both directed and co-wrote, Caro has also directed North
Country starring Charlize Theron, and McFarland, USA.
Coming
from the world of TV, Glatter has directed episodes for Ray Donovan,
The Newsroom, True Blood, Man Men, ER, The West Wing, and Homeland,
for which she has directed several episodes including one that has
given her a nomination for this year's Emmys.
As
for Scafaria, her first writing credit was Nick and Nora's Infinite
Playlist. She has also wrote and directed Seeking a Friend for the
End of the World starring Steve Carell, and Keira Knightley, as well
as The Meddler starring Rose Byrne and Susan Sarandon.
Written
by Inside Out's Meg LeFauve and Guardians of the Galaxy Nicole
Perlman, Captain Marvel opens in theaters on March 8, 2019 with Brie
Larson attached to star in the titular role.
