The
Walt Disney Studios has begun developing a reboot/sequel to the 1991
live-action adventure movie The Rocketeer starring Billy Campbell, Jennifer
Connelly, and Timothy Dalton, with Max Winkler (Henry's son) and Matt Spicer
onboard to pen the screenplay for the project.
Still
in the early stages of development, the project, which for the moment is being titled
The Rocketeers, will headline a black female character.
The
Jungle Book (2016) producer Brigham Taylor is producing the film alongside L.A.
Clippers' Blake Griffin and Carolina Panthers' Ryan Kalil.
Created
by Dave Stevens in 1980, The Rocketeer followed the adventures of stunt pilot
turned rocket powered superhero Cliff Secord, who used his straightforward bravado
and futuristic tech to fight Nazis and mobster.
The
new film takes place just six years after the events of the first film, in a
time when Secord has vanished while fighting Nazis, and introduces a new
central character, a young black female pilot, who will take on the Rocketeer
mantle to prevent a scientist from stealing jetpack technology and tip he Cold
War balance.
