In a competing move on Universal Pictures upcoming
monsterverse, Lionsgate is moving forward with the feature film adaptation of the
BBC One series Jekyll, for which they have set their sights on Captain America
himself Chris Evans for the lead role.
Based on Steven Moffatt's ("Sherlock") 2007
British miniseries of the same name, Jekyll follows Tom Jackman, the last
living descendent of the iconic Dr. Jekyll who tries to keep his other more
violent, fast, and powerful side, Mr. Hyde, at bay with the help of a nurse who
watches over him. However, when Hyde discovers that Jekyll has a wife and
children things get very complicated, very fast.
Ellen DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman are producing through
their A Very Good Production banner, with scribes Anthony Bagarozzi ("The
Nice Guys") and Charles Mondry ("Death Note") set to write the
script. No director is at this time attached.
As stated earlier, Jekyll will class with Universal's
planned Dr. Jekyll film, which is set to star Russell Crowe in the lead role.
Crowe will first play the character in the upcoming The Mummy reboot opposite
Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella.
