Four
years later, The Walt Disney Animation Studios has finally decided to move
forward with a sequel to their critically acclaimed 2012 video game centric
animated film Wreck-It Ralph.
Director
Rich Moore and co-writer Phil Johnston are returning to direct the yet untitled
sequel, which sees Ralph's wrecking causing havoc on the World Wide Web.
John C.
Reilly and Sarah Silverman also return to reprise their voice roles as Ralph
and Vanellope, respectively.
News of a
Wreck-It Ralph follow-up would pop-up every so often, but Disney never
confirmed plans for one. However, now that Moore is done with the smash hit Zootopia,
which he co-directed, the filmmaker can dedicate his time to develop the sequel.
In
addition to basic plot, and cast, Disney also unveiled the release date for Wreck-It
Ralph 2. The anticipated film will open in theaters on March 9, 2018, pushing Gigantic,
a Jack and the Beanstalk-inspired animation also from Disney, to November 21,
2018.
Wreck-It
Ralph 2 will bookended by two superhero movies. One week prior to March 9,
Warner Bros. will release The Flash movie, while one week after there is a
mysterious Fox/Marvel movie coming out.
