As one of only two survivors
from Ridley Scott's Prometheus, we all assumed that Noomi Rapace would return to
reprise her role as Elizabeth Shaw along with Michael Fassbender as David in
the sequel. We were wrong.
When 20th Century Fox
released the synopsis and preliminary cast list for Alien: Covenant, two things
caught our attention. The first one was that the sequel will be set a decade
after the events of the first film, and the second one was that Rapace's name
was noticeable absent, confirming the rumors that she would not be reprising
her role. However…
According to Deadline's
sources, the actress is currently in Australia filming several weeks worth of
scenes for Scott's film, presumably in order to properly wrap her arc before
the story shifts towards the new cast and characters.
Ridley Scott returns to the
universe he created in Alien with Alien: Covenant, the second chapter in a
prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work
of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy,
the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is
actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic”
David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Opening in theaters
on August 4, 2017, Alien: Covenant also stars Katherine Waterston, Danny
McBride, Demián Bichir, Billy Crudup, Carmen Ejogo, Callie Hernandez, Amy
Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Benjamin Rigby, and Alexander England.
