British actor Toby Jones ("Captain America: The
First Avenger") has joined Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman on the
set of Sherlock.
The award-winning actor is set to play a yet unnamed
villain, who the show's co-creator Mark Moffat teases is "one of Doyle's finest
villains," while Mark Gatiss (the second co-creator) adds "we're
thrilled to welcome one of our finest actors to the Sherlock family. I know
Toby will embrace the part with true relish!"
On his part, Jones said he is excited and intrigued by
the character he will be playing in the second episode of the three-part
miniseries.
The fourth season of
Sherlock begins with Sherlock returning to England, as Watson and his wife Mary
(Amanda Abbington) prepare for parenthood.
Jones' credits also include Captain America: The
Winter Soldier, The Hunger Games and Harry Potter franchises, Infamous, The
Painted Veil, and City of Ember.
