We know next to
nothing about James Mangold's yet untitled The Wolverine 3, but a juice tidbit
of information has seeped through.
We know that screenwriters
David James Kelly and Michael Green turned to the Old Man Logan storyline from
the Marvel Comics for inspiration and wrote an R-rated film that will serve as a
farewell to Hugh Jackman who is leaving the character after the film is
finished. We also know that Boyd Holbrook will play an original villain who is the
scheming and unyielding head of security for a global corporation, and that
Richard E. Grant will play a mad scientist.
Now thanks to the
Nerdist we know something else.
According to sources
close to the production, which is currently taking place in New Orleans, The
Wolverine 3 will feature the Reavers. Half-human, half-robot, and all-cyborg, the
Reavers are a military-type task force designed to hunt and kill mutants.
It's unknown who will
lead them in the film, but in the comics, X-Men antagonist Donald Pierce (who is
half-robot himself) often takes that role. Another possibility is Mr. Sinister,
whose Essex Corporation is being heavily teased in the post-credit scene of
X-Men: Apocalypse.
Also starring Patrick
Stewart, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle, and Elise Neal, The Wolverine 3 opens
in theaters on March 3, 2017.
