A couple of days ago on Sunday, original
Ghostbusters star and screenwriter Dan Aykroyd posted on his Facebook page a
brief but soon to be polarizing opinion on Paul Feig's female-centric
Ghostbusters film, which according to him is on par with the 1984 and 1989
films.
"As originator
of the original: Saw test screening of new movie. Apart from brilliant, genuine
performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more
scares than the first 2 films, plus Bill Murray is in it! As one of millions of
man-fans and Ray Stantz, I'm paying to see that and bringing all my
friends!"
That certainly is a
very positive opinion of the film, however it is worth pointing out that beyond being an executive producer on the film, Aykroyd
also co-owns the franchise, so he has a very strong incentive not to speak ill
of the movie before it opens.
Starring
Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Charles Dance,
Michael Kenneth Williams and Chris Hemsworth, Ghostbusters opens in theaters on
July 15.
