Filmmaker Rian Johnson has
shared on his Tumblr page a new behind-the-scenes photograph taken from the
motion capture set of the next installment in the Star Wars cannon, Episode
VIII. Judging by the two images on the screen, the picture seems to be of
Academy Award winning actress Lupita Nyong'o giving life to the force-sensitive
bar owner she briefly but importantly played in The Force Awakens, Maz Kanata.
This isn't the first time
Johnson shared a behind-the-scenes
picture from the set of Episode VIII. Last month the director posted a photo
featuring his usual cinematographer Steve Yedlin standing on the dismantled
cockpit of the Millennium Falcon.
Described as a darker
film, Episode VIII also stars John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Carrie
Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony
Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis. New cast members will
include Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro, Academy Award nominee Laura
Dern, and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.
Star Wars: Episode VIII opens in theaters on
December 15, 2017.
