A couple of years ago
in 2014, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans were elated to hear that the studio had
included Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, and Inhumans to their Phase
3 lineup. Well a lot has changed since, and though Black Panther and Doctor
Strange are set to open in the near future, the inclusions of the new Spider-Man
reboot, Ant-Man and The Wasp, as well as a new installment in the Indiana Jones
franchise to the Disney slate of upcoming movies forced Marvel to alter their initial
plans.
Captain Marvel and
the Inhumans went through the shuffling machine and ended being bumped into new
release dates, however it seems that one is not like the other and while the
Captain is apparently locked to its new date, the Inhumans is not.
Speaking to Collider,
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige explained that Disney's current schedule will
probably end up forcing them to move the Inhumans movie to yet another date.
Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we
added Spider-Man, which
was a big joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man
and the Wasp, which was a big fun continuation of that story for
us. Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana
Jones film for
right around that same time. So I think it will shuffle off the current date
that it’s on right now. How far down it shuffles, I’m not sure yet.
The Inhumans are in a predicament right now. With Marvel's
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. exploring the subject, some feel that it is the reason
why the project is being bumped. But is it really? No, says Feige, who at the same time does not
commit into giving an official estimate time of arrival for the movie.
For now the Inhumans are scheduled to open in theaters
on July 12, 2019, after the Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2 on May 3.
