Although he has
gained some fighting experience due to his time on HBO's Game of Thrones, Finn
Jones is gaining some additional physical and spiritual training for his
upcoming leading part in Marvel's Iron Fist, where he will be playing Danny
Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist.
Speaking to
Entertainment Weekly, Jones revealed that he has been training in "kung fu and wushu mixed with a bit of
tai chi," as well as extensive weight training to bulk up.
Furthermore,
Jones reveals that in preparation for the role, which will involve Iron Fist
channeling his Chi as a source of great power, he is also undergoing mental
training, and he is studying Buddhist philosophy and meditation.
"I've always
dreamed of a role that bridged spiritual discipline and badass superhero,"
he told the magazine. "There's a contradiction in those elements that's
going to be very fun to play."
The 13-episode series
is currently in pre-production for a 2017 release date, with Dexter's Scott Buck attached as an executive producer and showrunner.
Also starring in the
series is Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, aka Carol Speed.
Returning to
New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the
criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery
and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.
