Angelina Jolie's replacement for the Tomb Raider
franchise has been found.
Academy Award winning actress
Alicia Vikander ("The Danish Girl") has signed on to play Lara Croft
in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, beating Star Wars: The Force Awakens star
Daisy Ridley to the role.
Directed by Norwegian
filmmaker Roar Uthaug ("The Wave"), the Tomb Raider reboot will center
on a young and inexperienced Lara Croft trying to survive her first big and
deadly adventure, which sounds awfully familiar to the 2013 reboot of the video
game franchise.
In the game, after a brutal storm destroys the boat she was travelling on, a frightened
young woman is left washed ashore on an unknown beach. On her own but not alone
she has only one goal, to survive. Here begins the first adventure for a young
and inexperienced Lara Croft in a story which charts the journey of an ordinary
woman who finds out just how far she must go in order to stay alive.
Between The Danish Girl, Man
from U.N.C.L.E., and Ex Machina, last year proved to be a particular successful
one for the actress who will next be seen starring opposite Matt Damon in Jason
Bourne.
