Robert Redford and Jason Segel have signed on to star in Charlie McDowell's
next project following his outstanding feature directorial debut in 2014 with
The One I Love starring Mark Duplass and Elisabeth Moss.
Titled The Discovery, the original sci-fi project "is set in a world two years after the existence of an
afterlife has been scientifically proven, resulting in millions of people
taking their own lives, believing that suicide is like pushing a reset button."
In the film, Redford will play
the man responsible
for the scientific discovery of the afterlife while Segel will play his son. Rooney
Mara, who had already joined the project, will play a woman with a tragic past
whom Segel's character will fall in love with.
Segel is replacing Nicholas
Hoult, who had to relinquish his role in the movie due to scheduling conflicts.
The X-Men star is getting ready to start filming Xavier Dolan's The Death and
Life of John F. Donovan.
Production is set to begin
later this month in Rhode Island.
