Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata will be honored
with the Winsor McCay Award for Lifetime Achievement at this year's Annie
Awards, which will be held Saturday, February 6 at the UCLA's Royce Hall in Los
Angeles, California.
On June 15, 1985, Takahata founded the iconic Studio
Ghibli alongside producers Yasuyoshi Tokuma (deceased) and Toshio Suzuki, and
fellow filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki.
At 80-years-old Takahata is the only creative of the
original group still working, now that Miyazaki in semi-retirement, and he has
a few projects still up his sleeve.
"I have several
projects that I still have in mind that I am currently working on to get closer
to realizing," Takahata told Variety. "Whether those will be
finalized as films is something that no one, myself included, can know."
Takahata's credits include Lupin The 3rd, Heidi, 3000
Leagues in Search of Mother, Future Boy Conan, Grave of the Fireflies, Only
Yesterday, Pom Poko, My Neighbors The Yamadas, and the Oscar nominated The Tale
of The Princess Kaguya.
