We recently found out that CBS had picked up the pilot
for a new MacGyver TV series, which will follow a "20-something MacGyver as he gets
recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving
problems in unconventional ways to help disasters from happening."
In the original '80s and '90s show, Richard Dean Anderson played the titular
character, who with ingenuity, elbow grease, and his trademark Swiss Army Knife
crafted the most improbable doohickeys out of household items, spare parts,
and/or junk.
Now however, it seems that Lionsgate
is also jumping aboard the MacGyver-train and is starting to develop a movie
reboot centered on the character.
Lionsgate CEO Jon
Feltheimer made the announcement during Lionsgate's earning calls this Friday,
and revealed that series creator Lee David Zlotoff will produce the movie, alongside
Fast & Furious franchise producer Neil Moritz.
As for the new TV
show, original executive producer Henry Winkler comes
back to executive produce the new show alongside James Wan (Furious 7) who will
also direct the pilot.
