Until Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse opens, the only
version of the mutant Jean Grey fans have ever seen in theaters is the one
played by Famke Janssen in the original X-Men trilogy and short appearances in
The Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Now there is a new one. Game of Thrones actress Sophie
Turner has taken on the mantle from Janssen and will be playing the character for
a new generation of fans.
"The difference between this and Famke’s Jean
Grey is she’s young and isolated and so insecure and very
alienated – even from the other mutants - because she’s so
powerful," Turner told EW. "So there’s a real vulnerability to her and
it’s great to see how she and Scott [Tye Sheridan] find each other through
that alienation. She’s a great role to play, she’s so much fun, and her arc in
the movie is amazing."
Opening in theaters on May 27, X-Men: Apocalypse also stars Oscar Isaac, James
McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Evan Peters, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult,
Rose Byrne, Lucas Till, Tye Sheridan, Olivia Munn, Alexandra Shipp, Ben Hardy,
Lana Candor, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Josh
Helman, and Tómas Lemarquis.
