Black Panther's (Chadwick
Boseman) role in Marvel's Captain America: Civil War is still shrouded in
mystery and while in the trailers released thus far we have seen him fighting
alongside Iron Man's team, those moments don't necessarily mean that he is on
Tony's side.
Speaking to Empire,
Boseman said that T'Challa, a.k.a. Black Panther is "not a superhero"
in the traditional sense and that he is "not
on anybody’s team. It’s my political mission to tame it and get it under
control".
Although
Black Panther is (or will be) an Avenger, his priority has always being the wellbeing
of Wakanda, the fictional African Kingdom of which he is the King, so Boseman's
comments on his character sound true, especially since we now know he won't be
taking anyone's side.
The
actor also revealed that his 2018 standalone movie will be a more traditional
superhero, though still character driven.
