After some uncertainty regarding his role in Marvel's Ant-Man
and the Wasp, two-time Oscar nominated filmmaker Adam McKay has confirmed his
involvement in the sequel, though to what extent he is still unsure.
Speaking to Nerdist about his Best Director and Best
Adapted Screenplay Academy Award nominations for The Big Short, McKay revealed
that he has spoken with Marvel Studios and he is definitely involved in Ant-Man
and the Wasp.
"We’ve been
talking to Marvel actually. We just talked to them the other day, and it
looks like I will be involved. I don’t know if it’s gonna be right from page
one. But it looks like I will definitely be involved. There you go. There’s a
little headline for the fanboys!"
For the first
Ant-Man, McKay worked with Paul Rudd polishing the script initially penned by
Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish. The script was then given to uncredited screenwriters
Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari for some overhaul. Barrer and Ferrari have
since been tapped by Marvel to write Ant-Man and the Wasp alongside McKay and
Rudd.
As for what is next
on his schedule, McKay says he is working on a couple of different projects.
"I’m talking
with Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly about maybe doing an immigration comedy.
I’m trying to crack climate change very, very hard. I have an interesting idea,
I think. But it’s got to be a movie that plays. It can’t be didactic or
pedantic. It’s got to be… I want to keep an audience on the edge of their
seats. So I’m trying to figure that out. But I don’t know. After this, we’ll see where we end up."
Peyton Reed returns
to direct returning cast members Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Michael
Douglas in Ant-Man and the Wasp, which has been scheduled to open in theaters
on July 6, 2018.
