Movies based on video games have been notoriously bad,
but 2016 holds great promise and hopefully that trend will end.
Assassin's Creed and Warcraft hold the key I think, but
before they can even attempt at opening the door for future movies, Sony Pictures and Rovio Entertainment will try their luck first with The
Angry Birds Movie.
Marking the directorial debut of Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly, the animated movie based on
the popular mobile game follows three outcast
birds, the speedy Chuck (Josh Gad), the temperamental Red
(Jason Sudeikis), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride), in their quest to
discover what the mysterious green piggies are up to.
Opening on May 20th of 2016, The Angry Birds Movie also stars Maya Rudolph (Matilda), Peter
Dinklage (Mighty Eagle), Bill Hader (Leonard the Pig), Keegan-Michael Key, Kate
McKinnon, Tony Hale, Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Cristela Alonzo, Jillian
Bell, Danielle Brooks, Latin music star Romeo Santos, and YouTube stars Ian
Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla from Smosh.
The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless
birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis - We're the
Millers, Horrible Bosses), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad
in his first animated role since Frozen), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride
- This is the End, Eastbound and Down) have always been outsiders. But when the
island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely
outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.
