Academy Award nominated
actress Emma Stone has entered negotiations to play the puppy-murdering villain
Cruella de Vil in Disney's upcoming origin story of the character simply titled
Cruella.
Despite not having a director
yet attached to the project, Cruella is a priority for studio who plans to
start production later on this year.
Kelly Marcel is currently
writing on the script initially penned by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears
Prada). Marcel is the creator of the canceled sci-fi adventure series Terra
Nova, wrote the screenplay for Fifty Shades of Grey, and co-wrote with Sue
Smith Saving Mr. Banks, for which she received a BAFTA nomination. Cruella is
the second project Marcel has done for Disney after Saving Mr. Banks.
Glenn Close played the
character in the 1996 live-action movie for which she received a Golden Globe
nomination, and then again in 2000 sequel, which received a Best Costume Design
Oscar nomination.
