In a surprising move, the Broadcast
Film Critics Association announced not too long ago that they would allow
voters to consider J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens for a Best Picture
nomination even if that meant break the rules and revise the official list of
nominees, which by that time had already came out.
Well it seems that the critics gladly took the
opportunity to re-vote and surprise, surprise, they gave The Force Awakens the
eleventh spot in their list of Best Picture contenders.
"While
making an amendment to the Critics’ Choice Awards nominations is highly
unusual, having an 11th Best Picture nominee is not unprecedented," the
group said today. "In 2000, Cast Away was similarly
screened too late for normal consideration and the BFCA included it among 11
Best Picture nominees."
Therefore, as it stands, the nominees are:
The Big Short
Bridge of Spies
Brooklyn
Carol
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Martian
The Revenant
Room
Sicario
Spotlight
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
The Critics Choice Awards will be broadcast on January 17.
