Warner Bros. has
decided to move Guy Ritchie's King Arthur movie from its original July 22, 2016
release date to February 17, 2017, where it will go up against the final
installment in Fox's YA trilogy, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, and Sony's Bad
Boys 3.
The plan it seems is
to follow on the footsteps of 20th Century Fox's Kingsman: The Secret Service,
which premiered roughly around the same time this year during the winter break
holiday and went on to make over $400 million at the worldwide box office.
The bold new story introduces a streetwise young Arthur (Charlie Hunnam)
who runs the back alleys of Londonium with his gang, unaware of the life he was
born for until he grasps hold of the sword Excalibur—and with it, his future.
Instantly challenged by the power of Excalibur, Arthur is forced to make some
hard choices. Throwing in with the Resistance and a mysterious young woman
named Guinevere (Astrid Bergès-Frisbey), he must learn to master the sword,
face down his demons and unite the people to defeat the tyrant Vortigern (Jude
Law), who stole his crown and murdered his parents, and become King.
Also starring are Eric Bana, Katie McGrath, Annabelle Wallis, Aidan Gillen,
Djimon Hounsou, David Beckham, Mikael Persbrandt, and Harmione Corfield.
