Academy Award winning actor Matthew McConaughey is circling
the villain role in Sony and MRC's upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's The
Dark Tower.
Variety reports that the studio wants the award-winning
actor to play Walter Padick, aka the Man in Black in writer/director Nikolaj
Arcel's (A Royal Affair) The Gunslinger, the first film in the franchise.
McConaughey has received the script but has yet to
decide whether he will join the project or not.
Padick is a demonic sorcerer who gunslinger Roland
pursues in the first book of the Dark Tower series. The character's debut in King's
pages was actually in The Stand as Randall Flagg, a character that McConaughey
was also offered to play but declined.
The Dark Tower franchise will come in multiple fronts,
both in theaters and on TV.
The Gunslinger is expected to begin production soon
for a 2017 release.
