Lucasfilm has decided
to take the Star Wars franchise into new and untested territory with the Star
Wars Story, previously titled Anthology, which will stray from the main
storyline and focus on other events in the franchise like the theft of the Death
Star's schematics or an origin story for the fan favorite character, Han Solo.
In the substantial
interview, Harrison Ford gave Entertainment Weekly as part of their exclusive
Star Wars: The Force Awakens issue, the actor in a telegraphic manner addresses
the upcoming spinoff that will focus on his character's formative years, and
teased that Lucasfilm is already speaking with somone to play the younger
version of the character.
Ford leans back and smiles. “I
think they’re probably talking to the young Han Solo.”
What advice would you give to
the actor they cast to help him get inside Solo’s head?
“I would say, ‘Talk to your
director. Watch the movies. And welcome aboard. Make it your own.’”
How do you feel about someone
else picking up the blaster?
“I never thought about it.”
Seriously, though. You’ve
worked as a craftsman, a carpenter, as well as an actor. It’s natural to feel
proprietary about something you’ve helped build, isn’t it?
“I got other things to worry
about. I got shoes at the cobbler that need to get picked up. I got to go get a
bike fixed,” he says, gesturing to a row of motorcycles along the back wall of
the hangar. “You know, I got a lot of things to think about.”
This is exactly the kind of
thing that used to drive Princess Leia nuts.
Lawrence
Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back, The Force Awakens) and his son, Jon Kasdan (In
the Land of Women) wrote the script that The Lego
Movie and 21 Jump Street directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller will
use to tell the origin of Han Solo, which will hit theaters on May 25, 2018.
