While we wait for an official statement from Warner
Bros. confirming that they are still moving forward with Justice League Dark, a
recent report from a guy who knows a guy revealed that the studio was not only
moving ahead but that the plan was to start filming sometime in 2016, with
Scott Rudin and Guillermo del Toro producing. The latter was at one point set
to direct, but passed due to scheduling conflicts with Pacific Rim 2, which according
to recent news has been put on the shelve indefinitely.
Back when he was attached to direct, del Toro revealed
that his script included Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Etrigan the Demon, Deadman, and
Constantine. Now according to Heroic Hollywood, Warner Bros. has found an actor
to play the master of the dark arts. It seems that True Detective star Colin
Farrell is the frontrunner to play John Constantine in the film.
However, they also say that Ewan McGregor was also
approached with the role, and that while Farrell is the frontrunner, we may end
up seeing both actors, since apparently one of them could play Etrigan's human
form, Jason Blood.
Furthermore, it looks like Monica Bellucci is the
studio's top choice to play Madame Xanadu, a character that has yet to make her
cinematic debut. Warner is also looking for a hispanic/black actress to play
Zatanna, and a "comedic presence" for Deadman.
