Sony
Pictures and Rovio Entertainment have released the first trailer for the
upcoming animated feature film based on the popular mobile game created in
2009. Directed by Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly, The Angry Birds Movie
is an origin story of sorts. It chronicles the first contact between the
flightless birds and the green piggies.
Opening on May 20th of 2016, The Angry Birds Movie stars Jason Sudeikis
(Red), Josh Gad (Chuck), Danny McBride (Bomb), Maya Rudolph (Matilda), Peter
Dinklage (Mighty Eagle), Bill Hader (Leonard the Pig), Keegan-Michael Key, Kate
McKinnon, Tony Hale, Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Cristela Alonzo, Jillian
Bell, Danielle Brooks, Latin music star Romeo Santos, and YouTube stars Ian
Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla from Smosh.
The movie takes us to
an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely.
In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis - We're the Millers, Horrible Bosses), a
bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad in his first animated role
since Frozen), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride - This is the End,
Eastbound and Down) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited
by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out
what the pigs are up to.
