Because of a scheduling conflict, Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson has had
to leave the third installment in DreamWorks Animation's Kung Fu Panda
franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter the project's "production
schedule became extended, forcing Wilson to bow out," and Kate Hudson (Almost
Perfect) to step in and voice Mei Mei, an overeager panda that is infatuated
with Po (Jack Black). Mei also thinks of herself as an exceptional ribbon
dancer, which she is not.
It is unclear if the
change will affect the release date, but according to the new site, animators will
have to go back and rework Mei's animation in such a way that it will "reflect
Hudson's take on the character."
Kung Fu Panda 3 is
still scheduled to open on January 29, 2016 with Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Seth
Rogen, David Cross, Lucy Liu, Dustin Hoffman, James Hong, Randall Duk Kim, and
Bryan Cranston also starring.
When Po’s long-lost panda father suddenly reappears,
the reunited duo travels to a secret panda paradise to meet scores of hilarious
new panda characters. But when the supernatural villain Kai begins to
sweep across China defeating all the kung fu masters, Po must do the
impossible—learn to train a village full of his fun-loving, clumsy brethren to
become the ultimate band of Kung Fu Pandas!
