Although he
is hard at work on BFG, acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg is already setting
up his next project, the adaptation of Ernest Cline's novel, Ready Player One.
According to
The Wrap five young actresses have lined up for the female lead role. The
news outlet doesn't have all five names, but according to them Elle Fanning (Maleficent),
Lola Kirke (Mistress America), and Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl)
have all landed on the shortlist of actresses to play Art3mis, a "gunter"
who is hunting for the clues that will win her OASIS, the sprawling and highly
valuable online virtual "utopia" created by James Halliday.
Set in the year 2044, Ready Player One follows a teenager called Wade Watts, who only
really feels alive when he is jacked into the virtual utopia known as
the OASIS, created by James Halliday. There, Wade tries to do what no
other player has been able to, find and decipher all the 80's pop culture clues
left behind by the game creator, and win the big prize, OASIS itself.

One opens on December 15, 2017.
