We have been hearing of an X-Men
TV series for a while now, but at today's Television Critics Association Press
Tour, Fox Network Co-Chairman Dana Walden offered an update on the series and revealed
that both Fox and Marvel are in talks about bringing the publisher's mutant team
to the small screen.
"We’re in negotiations with Marvel," Walden
revealed. "We’re hopeful that we’ll be able to announce something soon.
It’s something we’re definitely pursuing."
Good news then, however it seems that the "long-running"
series, as Walden described the show, will be restricted to the characters that
Fox currently holds the rights to, so don't expect to see the Marvel Cinematic
Universe barging in at any time.
"The characters from the X-Men franchise are with
Fox on the feature [films] side, so we won’t be including Marvel characters
that are at ABC with Disney."
With Bryan Singer about to once again restructure the
X-Men cinematic universe by introducing new characters and recasting others in
X-Men: Apocalypse, I doubt that we will hear anything on the TV front before
the movie comes out. However, the show might not be directly connected to the
film universe at all, if the rumor that Fox is developing an X-Factor TV series
is to be believed.
