Marvel Studios business
model seems so far to be to capture as much footage as possible so when it is
time to edit, directors have a certain degree of leeway to fine tune or change
certain aspects of the film.
Ant-Man is no
exception to this rule, and in a recent interview to CinemaBlend, director
Peyton Reed revealed that one thing they changed was the ending. Unlike the one
that can currently be seen in theaters with Luis (Michael Peña) informing Scott
Lang (Paul Rudd) that the Avengers are looking for him, this alternative ending
involved S.H.I.E.L.D./Hydra undercover agent Mitchell Carson (Martin Donovan),
Lang, and particles.
"At the end of
the movie [Carson] gets away and has these Cross particles, and there was a
sequence where Ant-Man has an encounter with him. But then for a couple
reasons, it felt like maybe we should leave those particles out there. In that
original thing, he took Martin Donovan out and got the particles."
It's unclear when Marvel
will return to this dangling thread, but with the exception of an Ant-Man
sequel, it could somehow play into the events of the upcoming Captain America:
Civil War, or perhaps an episode of the third season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
