Though short, the
Hall H panel for Guillermo del Toro's upcoming Crimson Peak had plenty of
interesting details, which the director and stars Mia Wasikowska, Jessica
Chastain, and Tom Hiddleston were more than happy to share.
- Del Toro revealed
that for Crimson Peak his aim was to create a sumptuous Gothic romance film the
likes of which hasn't been done in quite awhile, adding that his wife and
daughters served as inspiration for making a more "gender-liberated"
film, rather than falling on the same clichés of having the man saving the damsel
in distress. The director also said that there has been a secret gender war
going for awhile (?) and that he wanted to tell a different yet scary and
gorgeous" story.
- del Toro revealed
that Crimson Peak as made it into his top three favorite films h has made, and
he believes it's the most beautiful.
- Crimson Peak is the
first the director was given creative freedom to make an R-rated, English
spoken film has he wanted.
The Q&A was
equally short, but offered the actors some microphone time to talk about the
film.
- Hiddleston praised
the practical sets for which del Toro is known for. The director then revealed
that his favorite part of the mansion was the bathroom, while Chastain revealed
her favorite part was her character, Lucille's bedroom, which held essential
details for the story.
- Chastain described
her character as being "fiercely loyal" and "acting out of love".
